Rachel Foster

Rachel FosterThe principal and founder of Disco Mad Dancing School.
Dancing has always been my life, but teaching was always my ambition!!!
I started dancing at the tender age of three.  Having danced for over 33 years  I have gained lots of valuble experience in  both performing and teaching.  I’m proud to say that I have 20 years plus teaching experience under my belt. Over the years I have taught ballet, tap, modern,  disco freestyle, slow dance, rock ‘n’ roll and street, all at local schools. In June 2000 I decided to go it alone and open my own dance school. Disco Mad has been going from strength to strength ever since.

What is Disco Freestyle?

It is the trendiest and most popular form of dance in the UK today. It involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps as well as many other diverse steps and movements with lots of different arm and hand actions. The music can be fast with a good beat or slow and sensuous allowing dancers of all ages to use freedom of expression to enhance their style.

What is street dancing?

Street Dancing is a form of dancing that has many different styles. It originated in the city of New York, USA in the 70s and gained popularity instantly for its unconventional style and attitude. Street Dancing requires a lot of energy and creativity from the performer. It is one of the best ways of staying in shape and healthy. Have you ever seen the hottest pop band's music video or performance on Top of the Pops? Then you will already know what Street dance looks like.

What is tap dancing?

Tap is rhythm - rhythm is tap. Its origins are many and varied. Americans claim its origin dates from the African Jazz age. Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Evergreen shows, 42nd Street and Crazy For You, and the more recent Stomp and Tap Dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping. A gentle, rhythmical and enjoyable way to keep fit!

What will Dancing do for you?

To dance is to find expression of oneself, to enjoy life and make friends. Improve strength, coordination, stamina and flexibility. A social skill that will stay with you for life! Good cardiovascular exercise, dance regularly and it will help keep your heart fit and keep you trim. Dance is a way of exploring who you are.

A Dancer's Prayer

Dear angel, ever at my side
Be there today, my feet to guide.
Help me dance high, and light, and free,
So everyone will be proud of me.
May the judges be fair and the stages be spacious.
In winning and losing let me be gracious,
So that every dance I'll remember with pride.
And angel, please keep my shoelaces tied.
